Spanish Reserva Wines don’t have to be Expensive
Here are a couple of ideas for some very enjoyable Spanish Wine
that you can find in the Supermarket in Spain.
BERONIA Tempranillo Special Production 2009 Spanish Red Wine 75cl Bottle
I enjoy a glass of wine and like many people I know when I’m drinking a good wine or when I should throw it down the sink. You don’t have to pay through the nose to enjoy some of the best Spanish Wine. I have no idea about how to be “arty” with my language while describing the taste and quality of wine. When I read a review of a bottle of Rioja, the language used often reminds me of those pretentious Art Magazines that make your stomach churn at the pseudo intellectual style of the writer.
I’ve included a link to a Guide about Spanish wine for anybody who may be interested in furthering their knowledge.wine guide
Wine is either enjoyable and the drinker can decide for themselves if it is good or if it is clearly bad for the palette and should be thrown away.
LAN Rioja. So called because each letter of the name is the first letter of the province from where it comes. Logroño, which is now La Rioja, Álava and Navarra.
Red wines that are labeled “Crianza” have been aged 24 months and the last 6 months have been spent in a oak vat.
I totally recommend this wine to enjoy in good company. Although, as a Supermarket wine the cost is about 15,- euros it is worth it. The taste is smooth and surprising the first time and very more-ish. Get two bottles for special occasion.
LAN is best looked for in the bigger Supermarkets around town.
Albali Rioja 2007
Winery; Viña Albali
Region ; Tierra de Castilla
This is my regular choice of a good supermarket wine. Note that I select the 2007. I’ve mistakenly bought a couple of 2010s and was really disappointed. The taste and the sharpness of the wine is not bearable after drinking the better year.
Price; 3.30 – 3.60 euros
Gran Reserva is about 8-10 euros a bottle and is a fine wine to drink – as are most well known Gran Reservas – the simple Reserva at 3.30 euros a bottle is very enjoyable and will fit in with any heavy meal as a compliment.
Albali are medal winners for their wines. Albali can be found in most Supermarkets around Madrid and Spain.
Ribera del Duero
Region; Castilla y Leon
Various Wines stem from this region which is rich with vineyards that have a reputation for producing some of most sumptuous Wines in Spain.
Mayor de Castilla is a wine that received Bronze in the International Wine and Spirit Competition, both 2010 and 2012.
Starting price; 3.50 euros
Various wines from this region are stocked on the shelves of most supermarkets in Spain because it is very popular as an allround wine that can be enjoyed both alone and with a meal.
